Earth Day Education Program

The objectives of the Earth Day Education Program are to make top-quality environmental teaching materials more widely available in schools, to enhance students' ability to analyze and solve environmental problems, and to make environmental studies interesting and relevant to everyday life.

The Earth Day Education Program is an independent and effective mechanism for distributing environmental teaching materials directly into public, private, and parochial schools. It consists of a packet of environmental education materials and resources sent biannually (January and September) to schools K-12 free of charge. In the past, the Program reached 84,000 self-selected Earth Day Coordinators in over 67% of our nation’s schools. Providing schools with quality resources will ensure a strong environmental consciousness in the youth of our nation. We are currently downsizing the Education Program, in order to focus our energy more directly and successfully on New York State schools. We will be reaching approximately 6300 schools across the state, and will be able to provide them with quality materials that are specific to New York State as well as general environmental issues.

One important goal of the Earth Day Education Program is to distribute to every school in the program without regard to the ability to pay -- the materials are FREE! If you would like to participate in the program and are a teacher or other school administrator, please click the Teachers link to the left. If you are a student, please encourage a teacher in your school to sign up as an Earth Day Coordinator, and make sure to check out the fun activities on the Students page!
