BYS ( http://www.bys-crew.com/ )
BYS are four New York teenagers, doing what they love, making music and having fun. Inspired by everything from 70’s rock, 80’s punk, and 90’s indie rock, BYS is defining the music for our generation. The idea for the band began in 2007 by singer/guitar player Zach Allen and drummer Wyatt Offit. The two started playing together. In the spring of 2009, guitarist Dylan Brenner and bassist Layne Montgomery joined them to form BYS. Ranging from 14 to 17, BYS have cited inspiration from The Allman Brothers, The Clash, White Stripes, and Blink-182. Their eclectic music crosses genres, displaying the ultimate expression of teenage rebellion. BYS plays and performs unbound by rules or restrictions, a highbred generation of musicians who have grown up listening to digitally enhanced tracks that have become the standard to surpass. After just a few short months together, the band started a monthly party, “Better Together All-Age Saturday Matinees,” at The Studio at Webster Hall. Modeled after the all-age matinees at CBGB’s in the late 80’s and early 90’s, the party has been a success, giving fans a place to discover bands live. Currently working on their debut EP to be released this spring, BYS are collaborating with respected veteran artist such as Sergio Vega from QuickSand and the Deftones and Dan Keyes of Young Love. The song lyrics are honest and powerful without being whiney or disgruntled. BYS is planning to take their sound on the road, in the summer of 2010, playing coast to coast to promote their self-titled EP. Miz Metro (http://www.mizmetro.com)
If there was one word to describe Miz Metro it's: UNLIMITED. Hailing from New York City, raised in Manhattan Miz Metro grew up playing street ball & scatting in street corner ciphers. She acquired the name from her homemade door-knocker earrings made from NYC Metro cards, which have become her staple style item, a testament to her unique and quirky personality. With her well crafted lyrics and unconventional soulful pop sound Miz Metro has created a sound and style all her own. Often compared to Amy Winehouse, Fiona Apple, Lily Allen and Gwen Stefani, she describes her main influences to be "A cross between Etta James, Judy Garland & De La Soul." She has performed on bills/festivals with Drake, The Cool Kids, Pharaoh Monch, Moby, Emily King, Ladybug Mecca of Digable Planets, Jean Grae, Yarah Bravo, Louis Logic, Mickey Factz, and Charles Hamilton to name a few. Miz Metro is a modern music media artist, one that embodies the power today's artist can have in the creation and distribution of their image- as an art form in itself. With VJ experience conducting exclusive on camera interviews with Fab 5 Freddy, GZA of WuTang, Pharaoh Monch, Spankrock, Lady Sovereign and others, she is launching "The Miz Metro Show: UNLIMITED" expanding her presence & fan base by creating exclusive mobile content covering artists that don't fit in a box. Miz Metro is creating a platform for original thinking artists to be heard, she is the voice of the underground and a conductor of magic on stage, in the studio and behind the camera. Being an innovative leader with an unwavering work ethic, has planted her firmly on the front lines of the digital media music revolution. Miz Metro is the future, and there is no turning back. MetroSonics (http://www.metrosonicsmusic.com)
Who are MetroSonics? Paul Josephs: Leader of the band, NY street kid, son of a tough jewish mother, guitarist, MC, college graduate, educator, martial artist, public art school product, captain of the team, oversensitive street brawler, blues junkie, jazz lover, classic rock listening early 90's skater boy, foodie, autocrat of my own kitchen, producer, entrepreneur, session musician, activist ready to take to the streets, world traveler, Cuban soul, wine lover, millionaire, broke artist, health nut, stone cold sober business man, hemp lover, beat-boxer, free style whiz, comedian, rock star, came up with the name MetroSonics while heading downtown on the 2 train to a gig. Ry Cuming (http://www.rycuming.com)
Born in the small coastal Australian town of Angourie, Ry grew up with a surfboard under one arm and his Dad’s record collection under the other. He quickly developed a love for many different styles of music from Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder to The Beatles and The Police. His voracious appetite for music grew while his wide and varied tastes began to mold the sound and style that is uniquely Ry Cuming. Armed with an acoustic guitar and undeniably soulful voice, Ry’s professional music career began to take shape as an 18 year-old traveler and surfer in Costa Rica. One fateful afternoon while playing in the hallway of a hotel for some female pro surfers (Ry is an avid surfer himself), Ry met a young film producer from LA who was taken by his talent and happened to have some very good connections. He became the catalyst for Ry’s journey into the LA music scene, introducing him to a network of musicians that were starting to gain momentum in the area…Maroon 5, Phantom Planet, and Rooney. Ry was now in very good company and was quickly noticed by major label JIVE records, where he recently signed a new, exclusive recording contract. He has just finished his debut album, due out in the spring of 2010. Justin Sane of Anti-Flag (solo) (http://www.justinsane.net/)
Justin Sane’s solo project is not meant to be or replace Anti-Flag. I do it for a number of reasons. First off, I am constantly writing songs- way more than I could ever do with or without Anti-Flag. That said, my only real opportunity to record and play many of the songs I write is to do them on my own. Secondly, Anti-Flag is a band that is very much focused on a specific socio-political agenda (with a little bit of fun and humor thrown in at times), which is obviously important to me. However, I write songs about other topics too. Some of those topics just don't seem to fit into the Anti-Flag category. So while my solo songs are sometimes anti-war anthems, etc., you'll also find me writing about love, and friendships, and just about anything. I could do this with Anti-Flag, but when we started Anti-Flag I do not believe it was our goal to play such songs. We may throw a curve ball at you now and then, but mostly I don't see us straying too far from the path which we came. BuzzUniverse (http://www.buzzuniverse.com/)
BuzzUniverse is an original eclectic blend of rock, jazz, latin & world grooves. BuzzUniverse features smoking horns and a rock-solid rythm section. Since 2000, the band has been performing and tearing up clubs and large festivals throughout the northeast and has released two captivating studio albums, and one live album. Described by jambands.com as "addictive & hip-grinding," BuzzUniverse has enlightened loyal fans with brilliantly crafted songs, incredible vocal harmonies and ferocious live energy. Natives of Elizabeth New Jersey, BuzzUniverse aims to spread their unique sound and positive vibe far and wide! Grace Potter & The Nocturnals (http://www.gracepotter.com/)
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals are like a modern-day version of Tina Turner stroking the microphone in a spangled mini-dress while fronting the Rolling Stones circa Sticky Fingers. The proof is there for all to hear on the band’s third album for Hollywood Records, hitting this spring, and marks an artistic breakthrough for a vital young band caught in the act of fulfilling its immense promise. Little wonder that Grace and her cohorts have chosen to title it, directly and emphatically, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. SATURDAY APRIL 24, 2010 Manhattan Samba (http://www.manhattansamba.org)
The all-percussion ensemble is a traditional Brazilian bateria, based on the drum groups that accompany the yearly carnival parades in Rio de Janeiro. Manhattan Samba is directed by Ivo Araujo, a master percussionist who has performed with leading samba schools in Rio de Janeiro, and was founded in 1990 by Ivo and Amy Duncan, jazz pianist, composer and leader of the band Brass Tacks. Manhattan Samba is a truly international group, with members from Brazil, Central and South America, Europe, Japan and the U.S., all of them trained by Ivo Araujo in his weekly samba percussion classes. Stella Connelly (http://www.myspace.com/hoopsongs)
Little 7 yr. old Stella Connelly with the help of songwriter performer “Hoop the Last Folk Singer” is sending an important message to everyone this Earth Day 2010. Earth day is every day! The message is passed along through the new song “Earth Day Everyday”. The song was recorded by Stella Connelly and reggae recording artist Carlos Jones and First Light. Dewi Lim (http://www.sonicbids.com/alohadevmusic)
Dewi Maile is on a mission to bring Aloha to the world using music as a conduit. "Aloha is something that transcends mental constructs. It's a universal truth found in us all. The mele I share are meant to strengthen and mirror the Divine in each of us." From coffee houses to house parties, festivals to school assemblies and beyond, Dewi brings it - and lives it. Born and raised in Hilo on the Big Island, Hawai'i, Dewi's creative spirit was nurtured by her parents from a young age when she began studying piano, hula and painting. Early on Dewi was exposed to Reggae, a genre with immense popularity throughout the Hawaiian islands. Messages of unity and knowledge of self from the great roots rockers of the 70s and hip hop artists from the 80s and 90s inspired Dewi to begin her own musical journey. Dewi started writing songs after graduating from college and began frequenting open mics when she moved to Brooklyn in 2000. Gifted with a strawberry-red stained Norman guitar from her father, she began playing guitar in 2003. That year Dewi co-founded Art Unites Us, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting Hawaiian culture and other indigenous cultures through the arts. Dewi has shared the Spirit of Aloha in collaborations with children, families, teachers, and communities throughout New York City and Hawai'i. Nat & Alex Wollf (http://www.natnalex.com/)
Nat & Alex Wolff is an American pop rock musical duo, from New York, NY. The siblings of the same name are previously known for their work on the Nickelodeon television series The Naked Brothers Band, which was created by their mother actress Polly Draper.[1][2] It was adapted by a self-titled mockumentary film that Draper wrote and direct, and which eventually became a TV show on Nickelodeon.[1][2][3] The duo's initial tween pop boy band entitled, The Naked Brothers Band, was depicted in their Nickelodeon series that aired from 2007 to 2009. The boys' are currently becoming recording artists, as their first non-soundtrack album is expected to be released into stores in June 2010. Moodswing Orchestra with TK Wonder (http://www.myspace.com/benperowsky) (http://www.myspace.com/tkwonder)
TK Wonder’s notable skill for writing and "slamming" lyrics in a very unique hip hop/spoken word fashion seems to create a new genre with a significant electro punch. Her singing is as unique as her vibrant presence on stage and her outstanding live performance. Raised on a nourishing diet of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson in Baltimore, TK first became interested in stringing syllables together when she performed spoken-word poetry at the since-demolished downtown venue Wetlands. TK Wonder polished her craft at the legendary Sunday night Black Lily events hosted by The Roots. Always drawing raves for her work she would go on to perform at Def Jam showcases, Nuyorican Poet's Café and Nell's. TK's evolution from poetry to rapping was seamless, as the combination of her stage presence and sharply-honed writing skills merged to create a unique style of telling stories and addressing social issues with intricately-intertwined and multiple-syllable rhymes. She has performed at various venues such as Hiro Ballroom, Studio B, Nublu, Joe's Pub, Hunter College, Le Poisson Rouge, Apollo Theater, the legendary Lyricist Lounge show, Delano Hotel in Miami, The Viper Room in LA and the Jazz Cafe in London to name a few. TK Wonder has opened for artists such as Nas, Erykah Badu, Duffy, Talib Kweli and J*Davey. She has been featured in magazines such as Giant, Trace, and Luire, a publication in Japan. TK Wonder has also worked with artist Duke B and together they have opened for artist Kiril Dzjakovski in a few international electronica festivals such as VIP, Exit Fest, Belgrade Beer Fest and Tuborg Greenfest in Europe alongside the likes of N.E.R.D., The Prodigy, The Hives, Afrika Bambaataa, Sex Pistols and Gossip to name a few. Judah Tribe (http://www.judahtribe.com)
With a style that is reminiscent of the golden age of reggae music, Judah Tribe has honed its unique blend of soul reggae. From the smooth love song Sometimes Love to the highly political Sleepwalker Judah Tribe has captured the imagination of its fans. Comparisons to legends such as Steel Pulse, Peter Tosh and Bob Marley are not uncommon. Judah Tribe’s music has been heard inside the walls of the United Nations as well as at many prestigious events including; Chase Sounds of The City at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and Target 1st Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum in New York City. Judah Tribe has also been featured at the Danny Simmon's Corridor Gallery, S.O.Bs and Galapagos in New York City. Judah Tribe is led by singer/guitarist Josh David. Josh David currently tours with Little Jackie and Q-Tip and has played with internationally renown artists Stevie Wonder, Common, Rene Neufville and Joy Denalane. Deluka (http://www.myspace.com/deluka)
Deluka are an English electronic, indie band, whose sound has been likened to nearly every genre from Punk to Disco, Electro to indie and New Wave to No Wave. Deluka's fresh new sound is the eclectic evolution of Birmingham’s storied pedigree, a perfect storm of fluid electronic beats and hailing rock riffs, pulsating bass and breathtaking vocals. Following early praise from UK indie music bible the NME and trendsetting culture mag Dazed and Confused, Deluka inked a deal with Brooklyn indie label VEL Records releasing a 5 song EP in the summer of 2009. Since then “Sleep is Impossible” was tapped for Rockstar Games wildly popular Grand Theft Auto IV, AOL Spinner has launched an exclusive of The Rapture’s Remix of “Cascade”, and 3 songs have landed MTV placements (the hit show The City, and the VMA’s). That along with Clearchannel NEW! feature and 120 stations adding the record at college, has gotten Deluka a quick start to the US market. For some artists, successes are delivered by silver spoons, but Deluka's story is one of modest pride and hard determination amidst a melting pot of diversity. It began when Ellie Innocenti, a vocalist and songwriter whose regular performances at Birmingham’s Jug of Ale caught the eye of the electronics expert and producer Kris Kovacs. Together they forged a creative alliance that landed them in Innocenti’s bedroom studio. “It all happened organically, really” explains Innocenti. While testing different mixtures of electronic sounds and percussive lyrics, they created their own unique brand of danceable rock songs. Soon the duo combined forces with local musicians Daniel Brasco (bass) and Stevie Palmer (drums) under the name Deluka, coined after a dysfunctional character from the motion picture Pretty Woman. A Million Years (http://www.myspace.com/amillionyearsmusic)
Formed in early 2007, A Million Years began as a sort of “revolving door” with an ever changing list of band members, centered on songs born in Keith Madden's (vocals/guitar) bedroom. In the past year however, the line-up has evolved into a solid four-piece, with a sound that is far more cohesive and distinct. Steeped in songwriting that reflects the talents of Andrew Samaha (bass/vocals), Andrew Vanette (drums/vocals) and Nick Werber (guitar/vocals), A Million Years is now a collective of passionate, music-obsessed workaholics -- equally inspired by the intellectualism of bands like Radiohead; the quirk of bands like Wilco and Spoon; and the spunk and punk of bands like Arctic Monkeys. The foursome has taken their powerful live show to venues all around New York City including Highline Ballroom, Bowery Ballroom, Bowery Electric, The Studio @ Webster Hall, and The Mercury Lounge. Always on the move, they are active in the city's music scene in other ways as well, performing live and on tour with members of the band Longwave, Pin Me Down, and Bloc Party. Their recently released 3-song EP Incandescent, produced by Longwave’s Shannon Ferguson, is now available on iTunes and Amazon.com. A Million Years heads back in to the studio with Shannon later this year to record their debut full-length album, (to be released in early 2010) and are set to follow up with some major touring of their own. Tamarama (http://www.myspace.com/tamarama)
Born by the beach and proud to be Australian Tamarama's Jay and Pottsy are spreading their infectious style of surf rock/pop to the masses.. After releasing their first EP in 2008 they spent time touring the east coast of Australia and California while working on new music. Now fresh from recording their debut LP in New York City with acclaimed producer David Kahne (Sublime, the Strokes, Sugar Ray) they are set for a release in June of 2010 with a string of touring dates including Bonnaroo and Mountain Jam. Tamarama is Australia's best kept secret a small pristine beach that is a perfect mix of serenity, danger, glamour and good times.. Growing up in this magical place has fed the visual aspect of their music, mixed with their life experience of living all over the world finding love, losing love and still having hope. These are all undertones of this latest collection of songs.. Its a way of life!! its about living your dream and doing what ever it takes to get there!! Tamarama is showing they are definitely a breakout band to watch in 2010. The London Souls (http://www.thelondonsouls.com/)
The London Souls are rock’n'roll, straight up with the slightest twist of soul and a little dash of the blues. They play loud, they play raucous and they play with every bit of their bodies, as any good rock musician should; but perhaps the even better news is that unlike a lot of what passes for rock these days, they haven’t lost sight of what good music sounds like, no matter how loud it is.
