In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, we are launching the E
campaign which is being designed to give Earth Day a fresh face, draw
new people into the environmental movement and inspire everyone to take
positive action for the planet. April 22nd, 2010 marks the 40th
Anniversary of Earth Day and the challenges we face appear
overwhelming. It seems an opportune time to promote a new symbol of
hope and commitment.
The E campaign creates the opportunity for individuals to speak out about what they are doing to take positive action for the Earth. E
action can be manifested in many forms conserving energy, composting,
planting a tree, consuming local/organic food, biking, recycling,
installing solar panels, protesting environmental degradation, and/or
saving rain forests. Be the E is a call to action that evokes Gandhi’s
plea to “be the change you want to see in the world.” I am E is rooted in the notion that everything on Earth is dependent on everything else and that the Earth is one living organism.
The campaign will highlight choices made by all kinds of people to
live greener, cleaner, and more sustainable lifestyles. It will
emphasize the many ways one can make a difference on the myriad
challenges we face. Our goal is to create a sense of community and
identity that will attract a broad segment of the population. It is
time to rekindle the idea that we are all part of a powerful movement
that can really make a difference.
Forty years ago,
American anti war activists began using what had previously been a sign
for victory as a signal to the world of their commitment to peace.
Today, by flashing the E sign, one can demonstrate a commitment to preserving and protecting life on Earth. By being a part of the E campaign,
one can take a public stand and join the movement for a better world.
As the threat posed by climate change grows – and we face one of the
greatest challenges in human history – we need a way to bring people
together in the belief that we can make a difference.
The goals of the E
campaign are to encourage environmental concern and action, attract new
people to the environmental movement and create a lasting legacy: a
tangible sense of community and hope, a shared vision of a more
sustainable future and a clear understanding that we are not alone. We
hope you will join us: http://earthdayny.ning.com/
